Disney Channel fans are in for a treat with the recent announcement of a “That’s So Raven” revival.
When coming up with iconic Disney Channel shows, one immediately pops into my mind – “That’s So Raven.” Old fans like me are nothing but excited to hear about the recent announcement by Raven herself, Raven-Symoné, of the upcoming spin-off. Although the show doesn’t have an official cast, or much less, a title, it hasn’t stopped me from imagining the plot, or most importantly, the theme song.
At one point, my elementary school daily-routine revolved around the show. Every day my brother and I would hop off the bus but instead of jumping to do our homework, we’d run downstairs to turn on Disney Channel. “That’s So Raven” was one of our favorite shows to watch. It had everything a 9-year-old could want: comedy, simplistic teenage drama, occasionally a moral lesson, all accompanied by a catchy theme song I definitely knew all the lyrics to.
Symoné described the basis of the plot while hosting on “The View,” revealing to viewers that she will star in the reboot as a divorced mother of two kids. One of them, her daughter, will learn that she’s inherited Raven’s ability to see the future through visions. The show will revolve around Raven teaching her daughter about her special ability and how to handle it. According to Entertainment.com, Symoné’s not only planning on acting in the spin-off, but she’s also taken a producer role, behind-the-scenes, as well. The fact that the original “Raven” has a leadership role in the making of the show gives me reassurance that it’ll stick to its roots.
While I’m excited for the revival of the iconic show, I can’t help but wonder if it’ll remain true to the show I knew and loved as a kid. It’s hard to see your old favorite show or movie transform into something new and different, look at the announcement of “High School Musical 4,” for example. A whole new cast is starring in the upcoming HSM movie, introducing a completely different look and feel to a franchise beloved by millions. I can only hope that by including Symoné herself, the new spin-off will exceed expectations and appeal to not only old fans like me, but to the newer, younger generation of Disney Channel viewers.
