The Intergenerational Mass commenced on Thursday morning, Oct. 30 in the Sion gymnasium. Students invited fathers, grandfathers, uncles and male role models to celebrate the coming up of All Saints Day and male figures with priest, Fr. Tom Holder. Senior Maeve Riley and her father, Mike Riley shared an inspiring reflection about their faith and how it has grown throughout the years.
“I really liked to have been able to share that moment with my dad. We do so much together and we’ve grown in our faith together,” Riley said. “It felt like I was honoring him and showing him thanks for always being there and supporting me.”
Additionally, Juan Moya, father of sophomore Macy Moya, created a beautiful artwork of Our Lady of Guadalupe for Día de los Muertos that was presented at the end of Mass. This piece took him over 80 hours to construct and struck the audience with awe. Students and father figures raised their hands as a blessing and the art work was put on the Día de los Muertos altar.
“He does this because it is his hobby. He had a piece in the Nelson about two or so years ago for The Day of the Dead and it was very nice,” Moya said. “He drew Our Lady of Guadalupe for Sion with colored pencils and it looks beautiful.”
Various students participated in the Mass through including being gift bearers, lectors, altar servers, and eucharistic ministers. Juniors Brooke Hellebusch and Kathleen Totta presented the bread and wine with their male figures as well. Announcements were made after Mass including information about Le Vitraux and Tri-M.
