The Sion dance team performed at Rockhurst High School on the night of Friday, Sept. 5. Rockhurst students formed a tunnel with their hands while the dance team ran through and the students roared with excitement.
“It was really funny because as we were running through, the boys made a tunnel for us and they were screaming so loud.” Dance Team captain Hayden Zschoche said.
The dance team showed out for this fun performance. Sion dance team performing during the Rockhurst football game at half time has been a tradition for many years, bringing Sion students together as they cheer on their fellow classmates.
“I went because I got to see all my friends from all of the different schools and all my Sion friends brought together.” Junior Iva Hoskins said.
A new aspect added to Sion events is the spirit points, where the more Sion students that came to Sion events, the more points they earned for their grade level. This addition encouraged more students to come out and support their classmates while also contributing to their class score in hopes to win a day off of classes. In each grade GroupMe, students sent selfies of them and their friends to earn their class points. In the end, the seniors won the most spirit points for this game, however, each class will continue to have more opportunities of victory by showing up to support their classmates in sports, performances, and many other events. This growing participation will help Sion advance as a community and strengthen as a sisterhood.
Zschoche has been on the Sion dance team since her freshman year and has grown fond of dancing at Rockhurst High School each year. This performance at Rockhurst was extremely special to her because it marked her last time experiencing this event with her teammates as she is in her final year at Sion.
“I have enjoyed dancing at the Rockhurst football game all four years. It is a little scary but gives us an understanding of what performing at a football game is like and prepares us for competitions.” Zschoche said.
