On the Horizon

While the year may be nearing its end, there are still many exciting opportunities still to come. Mark your calendar for these upcoming events in arts and entertainment.
On+the+Horizon

March, and with it music in our school’s month, has come to an end, but many more musical events are on the horizon. Here is a brief overview of some of the events coming to Sion in April.

Tri-M Recital 2: April 3

Tri-M is an honors music society with branches all over the country. The Sion branch, led by seniors Noelle Bertrand, Lucy Wittek and Suzanne Sade meets every white week club period. Twice a year, once during fall and once during spring, the club showcases their musical talent in a recital that doubles as a charitable event. This year, the $5 admission goes towards Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit working to provide housing for families with children in hospitals. The recital generally has a lot of variety in its performance, ranging from Disney to jazz and including music by recognizable artists such as Billie Eilish and Lana Del Ray. Stop by the music room after school today at 6 p.m. to help support a good cause and witness amazing musicians.

The Twilight Zone: April 12-14

This year’s play, The Twilight Zone, is a collection of scenes from the original TV show that aired in the 1960s. With elements of horror and science fiction, the play is sure to evoke deep thoughts about society and everyday life. Preparations for the show have been ongoing since early February, with cast and crew pouring hours into perfecting a performance. The play will hit the stage at Avila’s Blackbox Theater three times, Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m.

Sustainable Fashion Show: April 18

The sustainable fashion show is put on each year by members of Green Team, a Sion club dedicated to sustainability and environmental protection. The show consists entirely of thrifted, reused, and upcycled outfits and demonstrates that you can be fashionable and sustainable. Students could volunteer to model on the catwalk, either bringing their own clothes or wearing clothes provided by fellow students. The show will take place during the activity period Thursday, April 18.

Fine Arts Week: April 22-26

Another Sion yearly tradition, Fine Arts Week is a week-long celebration of the arts at Sion, allowing artists of all types to showcase their works and talent. The week includes events such as the Spring Concert, where students from choir, symphony and drumline showcase their learning. An art gallery is also held outside the gym before the concert, allowing people to view the art pieces Sion students created this year. These two events occur on Tuesday, April 23, with the gallery opening at 6 p.m. and the concert beginning at 7 p.m. Other events will occur during the school day, such as the Fine Arts Presentation which will take place during the activity period on Thursday, April 25. The week will be concluded with a student marketplace on Friday, April 26 while musicians compete in the State Solo and Ensemble competitions.
