According to counselor Nancy Stevens, senior Laura Camarata was recognized Saturday at the Missouri Scholars 100 luncheon in Columbia, Mo. as one of the top 100 seniors in the state. Missouri Scholars 100 is a program that celebrates student achievement based on ACT, GPA, Class Rank, rigorous courses in English, math and science, two years of foreign language, citizenship, attendance, leadership and community service.
Stevens said a committee reviews and makes selections for this nomination from our school based on a point system for each of the criteria.
“Mrs. Stein asked me for an updated resume then a few weeks later I found out that I was being nominated when I got a letter in the mail. I was surprised and incredibly honored to be considered for such a prestigious award,” Camarata said.
Stevens said it is heavily weighted on GPA and ACT with a great emphasis on attendance, citizenship, rigorous core courses and leadership/community service.
“This is a highly prestigious award in the state of Missouri. On Sunday, there were nine students who received this award who also had earned a perfect ACT or SAT score,” Stevens said.
Laura will be attending the University of Notre Dame and, tentatively, majoring in psychology.
